The Coffee Question started out as an attempt by a life-long coffee hater to figure out exactly what the rest of the world saw in the vile stuff. I hated everything coffee flavored. Ice Cream? Tiramisu? No thank you.
So how is it that so much of the world loves coffee so much? In so many countries around the world, coffee culture shows the unique personality of that society. You can find locals enjoying their version of coffee, sitting in corner shops, around campfires, on open-air verandas - or so I imagined - all sipping on their preferred style of java. And I, a lover of travel and culture, would miss out on it all! This simply could not be allowed to happen.
And thus it was that I placed mind over matter, reason over taste, and embarked on this journey. I told myself, “self, you may never like coffee. You may never be able to stomach more than a sip. But you’re gonna do it, and you’re gonna do it with a smile.” So I did.
If you go back far enough, you’ll find those first detestable sips. But if you come far enough, you’ll see the transformation from coffee hater to coffee snob. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do!
